Overview

Good management and husbandry can improve all aspects of a horse’s environment, which prevents stress that can lead to disease. In this module you will examine the question, “What makes an environment safe and healthy for a horse?”

Most animals are handled and restrained several times during their lifetime. Understanding animal behavior can help to prevent injury and unnecessary stress for both animals and their owners. Thus, in you will also explore how should stress be avoided when handling and moving horses. As you go through the later parts of the module, ask yourself, “What example of horse handling or transportation illustrates my own best practice? What horse management skills are most important for me to work on developing or improving?”
