Project Options

Option 1: Inspection Criteria Checklist Form

Content

Create an “Inspection Criteria Checklist Form” that guides the evaluation of a domestic animal environment. This form will identify criteria, or ‘what to look for’ when inspecting a domestic animal’s environment. Organize your form to include the following:

  1. Criteria for inspecting four main areas of animal husbandry and care in the environment:
    1. Capability to monitor animal physiology and vital signs
    2. Safe and clean shelter or housing
    3. Allowance for movement
    4. Avoidance of stress.
  2. A rating scale or rubric that specifies what has to be present and evident in each of these four areas to demonstrate best animal husbandry practice.

Alternative: You may choose to create a video or podcast that identifies what to look for in the four main areas and then compares it to or demonstrates “what was found” in an animal environment to which you have access.

Format

You may choose to create your profile / portfolio in a format such as those listed below or develop your own:

Icon of a graded podcast or audio recording

A scripted audio podcast,

Icon of a graded website

A simple personal webpage design,

Icon of a graded paper or report

A summary ‘portfolio’ document,

Icon of a graded presentation

A series of PowerPoint slides.

Option 2: Design An Ideal Living Space

Content

Create a design for an ideal living space for a domestic animal. Ensure that your design demonstrates best practice and standard of care in the following three aspects:

  1. Access to facilities that provide for basic physical needs, including food, water, and sheltering, grooming and regular care.
  2. Space to move and encourage natural behaviours.
  3. Things to include or avoid to prevent stress.

Alternative: You can videotape a living space for a domestic animal with a voiceover narration that identifies what reflects a good standard of care and what should be improved. Ensure that your voice-over narration addresses each of the three aspects of care.

Format

You can choose to create the “Ideal Living Space” design in any of the following ways:

Icon of a graded video

As an actual narrated video in a real environment in which you may live or work, OR

Icon of a graded presentation

Create a storyboard & “script’ to demonstrate a potential animated video in comic or cartoon style. PowerPoint slides or Word document are recommended formats for this.

Option 3: Update Your Portfolio

Content

Add to the personal profile you created in AGR 1040 course. Organize your profile to highlight the following new skills:

  • The importance of skill of ‘observation’ in monitoring behaviour, movement and posture, vital signs, body condition and body functions.
  • How your knowledge of your animal’s physiology and normal behaviour helps you practice good animal restraint.
  • How you avoid or prevent stress.

Format

You may choose the same format you used in AGR 1040 to complete a final project portfolio, or develop a new format:

Icon of a graded podcast or audio recording

A scripted audiotape or podcast introduction of yourself, your skills and knowledge,

Icon of a graded website

A simple personal webpage design,

Icon of a graded presentation

A series of PowerPoint slides.
